Civil society coalition on Information and Democracy

Civil society lies at the heart of the international Initiative on Information and Democracy since its creation. A coalition of civil society organizations is being created.

Civil society organizations are invited to join this coalition to work for democratic guarantees in the global information and communication space, in the spirit of the international Declaration on Information and Democracy.

Objectives

Build

A collective global and concerted effort – where all regions of the world are represented – in favor of a democratic information and communication space

Mobilize

States of the international Partnership on Information and Democracy to strengthen their appropriation of the initiative and to extend the Partnership to new signatory States

Contribute

To the work of the Forum, especially to the development and implementation of recommendations for the regulation of the digital space

Activities

Members of the coalition may

  • Participate in international events
  • Co-sign opeds
  • Contribute to collective and concerted advocacy efforts
  • Network and share knowledge
  • Contribute to the work of the Forum

Thanks to the coalition, organizations can benefit from participation in high-level meetings, visibility, and leverage to influence public policy at the international and national level.

Join the coalition

Organizations with a mandate related to the Forum’s one (digital rights, press and media freedom, civic space, human rights, etc.) and with an international, regional and/or local scope are invited to join the civil society coalition on Information and Democracy.

The coalition will be inaugurated at the first Summit of the Initiative on Information and Democracy in September 2021, which will be a major opportunity to move towards concrete results.
