Our focus areas

Our policy work is focused around key democratic challenges in the digital space. Through international working groups, thematic reports, and actionable recommendations, we provide evidence-based standards and guidance to strengthen democratic safeguards in the information system.

 

Our workstreams

We facilitate intergovernmental cooperation through thematic workstreams co-led by governments. These workstreams allow signatory states to coordinate, test and develop public policy responses aligned with our core principles.

Identifying Solutions to Ensure Information Integrity on Private Messaging Platforms

Launched in February 2025 and co-led by Luxembourg and Ukraine, this workstream focuses on tackling the challenges posed by private messaging platforms, which are widely used but often lack regulatory oversight.

Strengthening information integrity on climate change & other environmental issues

Launched in February 2025 and co-chaired by Armenia and Brazil, this workstream brings together States, civil society and international experts to strengthen information integrity on climate and environmental issues.
 

The Observatory

The International Observatory on Information and Democracy is an initiative of the Forum. Structured in the spirit of the the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it delivers scientific insights on the impact of information and communication systems on democracy worldwide.

The Observatory published its inaugural global meta-analysis in January 2025, offering a cross-disciplinary synthesis of existing knowledge on news media, AI, and data governance, with a focus on their democratic implications across different regions of the world.
