On November 18, civil society and Economic and Social Councils of European Union will come together for the 6th edition of the “Erasmus of organised civil societies” under the theme “Civil Society and Economic and Social Councils at the forefront to protect European Democracy”.
Following the newly launched European Democracy Shield, the day will bring together European and French parliamentary representatives, European Commission officials, as well as experts, stakeholders, think tanks and civil society organisations committed to preserving democratic resilience.
The morning session will focus on discussions around proposals from civil society to support the European Democracy Shield’s implementation. The afternoon will address responses to emerging forms of interference and disinformation, with a dedicated session exploring the challenges faced by countries aspiring to join the European Union.
Katharina Zügel, Policy Director at the Forum on Information and Democracy, will participate in the session “Preserving democracy against interference and disinformation”, at 15:30 CET, alongside Marc-Antoine Brilliant / VIGINUM, Leonardo De Agostini / EU Institute for Security Studies, Marie-Claire Martel / Conseil économique social et environnemental, and Charles B., OECD-OCDE. She will emphasize the need to build information spaces that provide access to reliable information and to address the root causes that allow disinformation to flourish.
All sessions will be livestreamed in English & French on CESE’s Youtube channel .
