Ukraine becomes the 53rd member of the Partnership for Information and Democracy

Ukraine has officially joined the International Partnership for Information and Democracy, a strong commitment to establish democratic safeguards in the information space. The Forum on Information and Democracy stands ready to support the country’s efforts to ensure media freedom, tackle disinformation and safeguard a democratic information space.

As announced by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ukraine has joined the International Partnership for Information and Democracy. It becomes the 53rd country to commit to the principles of the Partnership which will celebrate its 5th anniversary in September 2024. This announcement follows the constant engagement of RSF with Ukrainian authorities, notably since February 2022.

Ukraine joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy is a positive sign of the country’s willingness to ensure their information space respects democratic principles. In a context like no other, the Forum on Information and Democracy stands ready to support the national authorities, local civil society and other partners to shape and implement concrete solutions to promote information integrity in the country and throughout the region.

As the implementing organization of the Partnership, the Forum seeks to develop and implement policy solutions to safeguard information integrity. Bringing together a cohort of 53 countries, a coalition of civil society organizations and a wide network of researchers and academics around the world, the Forum establishes and supports international collaborative spaces on policy, research and solutions.

The Forum notably organizes regular working meetings of the Partnership and actively contributes to the annual Summits of the Partnership. Although Generative AI catches a lot of attention, the Forum is notably looking forward to working with Ukraine on themes developed in the past such as the sustainability of media, private messaging systems and information integrity in times of conflicts.
