The Republic of Seychelles has officially joined the International Partnership for Information and Democracy, affirming a strong commitment to establish democratic safeguards in the information space. The Forum on Information and Democracy stands ready to support the country’s efforts to ensure information integrity, notably on climate change and environmental issues.
The Forum on Information and Democracy is pleased to announce that the Republic of Seychelles has officially endorsed the International Partnership for Information and Democracy. It becomes the 56th country to have committed to a series of democratic principles for the information space and to work with the Forum on their implementation. The archipelago also becomes the 7th country on the African continent to join the initiative.
“We are very much looking forward to collaborating with the Republic of Seychelles, and I’m sure the voice of the country and the challenges it needs to face will bring a unique perspective in the work and activities of the Forum. We are particularly interested in benefiting from the country’s actors’ inputs on issues related to climate disinformation.”
Camille Grenier, Executive Director, Forum on Information and Democracy
As the implementing organization of the Partnership, the Forum seeks to develop and implement policy solutions to safeguard information integrity. Bringing together a cohort of now 56 countries, a coalition of civil society organizations and a wide network of researchers and academics around the world, the Forum establishes and supports international collaborative spaces on policy, research and solutions.
Its dedicated workstream on Strengthening information integrity on climate change and environmental issues, co-chaired by Brazil and Armenia, will hopefully be very relevant for the Republic of Seychelles as the country is certainly one of the most impacted by climate change.
