Webinar “Safeguarding the integrity of online information spaces” – 10 April 2024

Information integrity has become a key issue in global crises. Information travels fastest on social media platforms, which are not only a gateway to information about latest developments but also a battleground for the interpretation of crises. With disinformation and competing narratives, platforms are the space where actors try to influence the outcome of the crisis, no matter if conflicts, health crises or natural disasters. Advances in artificial intelligence have aggravated the situation, reducing barriers for malicious actors.

This webinar organized by OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and the Forum on Information and Democracy aims to present ways forward to enhance access to reliable information and strengthen information integrity online in times of crisis. It builds upon the recent policy recommendations “Platform and Content Governance in Times of Crisis” by the OSCE RFoM and “Enable Peacebuilding through Safeguarding the Integrity of the Information Space in Times of Conflict” by the Forum on Information and Democracy.

Panelists will discuss how to ensure access to reliable, diverse, and public interest information during crises, how platforms can contribute to peacebuilding and crisis resolution, and the role of civil society in policy making and oversight.
