Honoring Christophe Deloire’s legacy by continuing his relentless advocacy for media freedom, democracy, and the integrity of information

The Forum on Information and Democracy is deeply saddened by the passing of Christophe Deloire, founder and Chair of the organization, on June 8 in Paris after a fast-evolving cancer.

Christophe Deloire led the creation of the Forum on Information and Democracy in 2019 and has been its chair since then. Known and acclaimed for his leadership of press freedom NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Christophe was convinced of the need to implement democratic safeguards for the information and communication space, allowing everyone to enjoy a democratic information space that promotes access to pluralistic, independent and reliable information.

This lifetime engagement resulted in the creation of the Partnership for Information and Democracy endorsed by 52 States around the world and the creation of the Forum to facilitate the implementation of its principles. The Forum, its Board of Directors, permanent team and a wide network of partners around the world are committed to defending this vision.

With sadness comes an imperious willingness to keep Christophe’s legacy alive, says Camille Grenier, recently appointed as Executive Director of the Forum. He left us with an amazing architecture to solve some of the most dire challenges democracies face around the world. We will strive to sustain this effort and defend his vision.

The organization can count on a committed Board and team as well as a wide network of organizations and experts to support its mandate. Nighat Dad, Vice-Chair of the Forum, expresses “her most sincere condolences to Christophe’s family and friends. Moved by ideals, Christophe gathered us in 2018 to launch an ambitious international process. I am proud of what we have achieved so far and we will keep up the fight for him.”
